Those who had won the victory over the beast, its statue, and the number of its name were standing on the glassy sea. Then I saw what looked like a sea of glass mixed with fire. Isaiah 24v18Īnd they saw the God of Israel: and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness. ![]() Then it will be that he who flees the report of disaster will fall into the pit, and he who climbs out of the pit will be caught in the snare for the windows above are opened, and the foundations of the earth shake. ![]() Yet He commanded the clouds above and opened the doors of heaven Psalm 78v23 YHWH promises us that He will never flood the earth again as a way of destruction (read Revelation to find out what His plans for the future destruction will be) and that when we look at the rainbow we are reminded of His promise. 16 Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.” Genesis 9 NIV Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. 14 Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, 15I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. YHWH made a covenant with Noah and his descendants:ġ2 And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: 13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Once again there was a beautiful earth but now YHWH brought a special sign into the world – the rainbow. Now going onto the painting for this blog, I wanted to depict the garden after the flood when YHWH gave his creation another chance to follow His ways. Genesis 8v2 NIV The illustration below shows the Hebrew view of the firmament with the floodgates. But we read: Now the springs of the deep and the floodgates of the heavens had been closed, and the rain had stopped falling from the sky. Some scholars, however, believe that when YHWH flooded the earth, the firmament (which has been described as a glass-like structure – see references below) was destroyed as the waters flooded out. And not only were the floodgates opened but they were also closed again when enough water had poured out. ![]() Here we see a vivid picture of how the firmament over the earth has windows or floodgates. When it was time for the rain to fall and the ark to voyage out, YHWH commanded the floodgates to be opened so that the waters from above the dome would pour mercilessly onto the earth: On the seventeenth day of the second month, when Noah was 600 years old, all the springs of the great deep burst open, the floodgates of the heavens were opened Genesis 7 v 11 ESV But Noah was a God-fearing man and so YHWH told him to build an ark so that he and his family along with many animals could be saved and then go to repopulate the earth. ![]() YHWH planned to flood the earth and destroy everything. YHWH saw how the people of the earth had become corrupted in their ways and that animals as well as people were totally defiled : ₅The Lord saw how great man’s wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time…₇So the lord said, “I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, off from the face of the earth…” For this painting I skipped forward a few chapters in Genesis to get to the episode about Noah and the flood.
